Our Week with the BIBAs

It’s been all systems go here at Festive Lights HQ this week as we’ve been visited by three sets of judges, very much like Ebenezer Scrooge and his three ghostly visits of past, present and future, although our visitors have been much more pleasant and will potentially award us with the very prestigious BIBA award!

In their tenth year this year, the BIBAs, the Be Inspired Business Awards, are Lancashire’s largest and longest running business awards programme and are run by the North and Western Chamber of Commerce. It’s a great honour and fantastic achievement to be successful in getting through to the last stage of the judging process, as finalists in not one, not even two, but three separate categories!

We have worked incredibly hard to get to this point and have enjoyed inviting the judges of each category into our freshly primped and beautified office on Monday (Best Use of I.T.), Wednesday (Exporter of the Year) and Friday (Small Business of the Year).

We won’t find out the results of all our hard work until the glitz and glamour of the awards ceremony in September, at which we will be all trussed up in our Festive Lights finery, so until then, here’s a snapshot of our week with the BIBAs .

Monday – Best Use of I.T.

Since this was the first time the judges were heading our way, nerves were starting to show as their E.T.A approached, but we were all fiercely proud of how beautiful we had made the office look especially for the arrival of our VIP special guests. We’d even laid out the Festive blue carpet, lined with our very own festoons, of course!

Not ones to shy away from throwing ourselves straight in and embracing the awards process wholeheartedly, we created a video, which we projected on the wall as the judges entered the building. The video was a sequence of clips to show members of staff, from every part of the company, getting involved and displaying their interpretation of the infamous BIBA Bend with pride! The stance mimics the unique pose adopted by the BIBA statue and is trickier than you might think to recreate.

Take a look for yourselves, we even had lessons!

Wednesday – Exporter of the Year

Another day, another set of BIBA judges arrived on our doorstep; this time to judge our Sister company, DriBox, in consideration for Exporter of the Year. The judges were really enthusiastic about our unique product, and were especially impressed by the fact that the product is manufactured within the UK and then exported worldwide.

Friday – Small Business of the Year

The third and final visit from the lovely BIBAs. Well practised by this point in hosting judges, fielding questions and bending the BIBA way, we were feeling fairly confident in our chances of impressing in the Small Business of the Year category, we’d even made cupcakes for the occasion!

We weren’t quite so prepared for the grilling we received from the very knowledgeable and experienced judges; but, with what some might call cat-like reflexes, we adapted to the situation, answering each question concisely with poise and grace! In other words, we think we did ‘OK’!

BIBA3

We’ve had a great week with the BIBAs , it’s been hectic in a good way and has left Festive Lights HQ with a real buzz of excitement and with so much pride for all the hard work we do. Only time will tell if we’ve been successful in any of the categories, and if our hard work has paid off, so we’ll have to wait and see. Until then, cross your fingers for us!
