DIY jar and bottle lights – the perfect Mother’s Day gift

Today, I’m going to talk you through how to create some unique lights for the home, using just some simple wire lights and some things that you can find around the home. They might also make a great Mother’s Day gift. So, here we go…

STEP 1: GATHER MATERIALS

My idea was to try and create an indoor mood light using decorative wire lights from festive lights. To do this I’m going to use glass ware that you would usually throw away or recycle which include wine, spirit, beer bottles and jam jars.

STEP 2: WASH UP

Having collected the various bottles and jars I then had to remove all the labelling attached to the glass ware. To do this I filled a large kitchen sink with warm soapy water and left the bottles to soak for 20-30 minutes. After the soaking the labels become soft and could be removed very easily from the bottles.

STEP 3: FEED LIGHTS INTO JAR OR BOTTLE

Once all the labels have been removed and the bottles have dried, I then set about getting creative with the decorative wire lights. These lights are perfect for decorating in and around the home due to their ability to bend and flex to any shape desired. I fed the wire lights into the bottles to see what effect I could create. The easiest way to do this is to feed it through your fingers bit by bit then the lights are spread out evenly throughout the full length of the bottle rather than being bunched at one end.

STEP 4: REPEAT

Because one bottle is never enough. As you can see from the images, the lights completely change colour from the effect of the coloured glass of the bottles which give a very subtle and warming glow.

STEP 5: FIND THEM A HOME (OR GIVE TO YOUR MUM)

These illuminated bottles or jars can then be positioned anywhere in the home for parties, gatherings, and romantic dinners or just for adding a little atmosphere. So, please have a go yourself, they are so simple to make and would be ideal for Mother’s Day gifts. Oh and it goes without saying, we’d love to see your creations!
